It was the longest battle in the history of The Great Patriotic War. The heroic defence of the city lasted for 1126 days.

About 1 442 000 civilians died in the besieged Leningrad. 577 960 permanent losses were sustained in the battle for Leningrad.

Leningrad was granted the tittle of Hero City.
